When Indy helped “bite” the ribbon at the opening of Elanco’s new global headquarters in Indianapolis, she did more than help mark a milestone for the company. She represented the remarkable impact animals can have on people’s lives.
Indy is a rescue dog being trained by Medical Mutts Service Dogs, an Indianapolis-based nonprofit that transforms shelter dogs into highly skilled service animals for people living with disabilities and medical needs. Through its sponsorship, Elanco’s U.S. Pet Health team is helping fund Indy’s training and placement with the individual she will one day support.
The collaboration gives Indy a second chance while preparing her to provide someone with greater independence, security and confidence. Depending on the needs of their handlers, Medical Mutts service dogs can be trained to recognize medical episodes, provide psychiatric support, assist with hearing loss and perform other specialized tasks.
Indy quickly became part of the Elanco family. At the company’s headquarters opening in October 2025, she received her own employee badge and took center stage during the ribbon-cutting ceremony. The moment was later selected as Elanco’s 2025 “Moment of the Year” and captured in an original painting by Indianapolis artist Rebeka Anastasia Sweetland.
Indy’s journey brings Elanco’s purpose—making life better for animals, makes life better—to life in a powerful and personal way. By supporting Medical Mutts, Elanco is helping a rescued animal discover a new purpose while creating a life-changing partnership for a person in need.
For Indy, opening the doors to Elanco’s new home was only the beginning. Her next chapter will be spent opening new possibilities for someone else.
