A healthy world starts with healthy animals. Our commitment to animal health extends beyond providing safe and effective products. It also involves nurturing the next generation of researchers and scientists who will drive the future of animal health. That's why we have established the Elanco Scholars Program, which links individuals within our talent programs as interns, post-doctoral scientists, and Fellows with additional training, networking and career development opportunities.
The newest addition to the program is “Elanco’s Animal Health Fellowships,” which supports areas of external research vital to our animal health solutions, increases access to graduate-level training for diverse populations of students, and establishes Elanco as an employer of choice for early and diverse talent. Elanco is funding additional training for students in partnering universities, growing the number of students entering the workforce with specific knowledge in animal health and wellbeing.
Partners this year include Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine and the Cornell University College of Agriculture and Life Sciences to support an inaugural cohort of scholars.
One of our fellows from Cornell University, Maria Rebeca Villalobos, shares her journey: "From a young age, I have always had a lot of curiosity and affection for animals, which is why after I graduated from college, I decided I wanted to work in the animal nutrition field, specifically with dairy cows. I was attracted to apply for the Elanco Scholars Program primarily due to its reputation for promoting innovation and leadership within the field of animal science."
Throughout her academic journey, Xiaolei Ma from Auburn University, progressively recognized the significant challenges prevalent in animal health, specifically issues like cat obesity and dog behavior. Observing the profound impact these issues had on both animals and their human companions ignited her determination to dedicate her career to research and development aimed at solving these challenges.
