Artificial intelligence (AI) is in the headlines, in many of our homes, and now contributing to Elanco’s commitment to improving the health of animals, people and the planet.
AI chatbots such as ChatGPT can expedite tedious tasks, analyze data and quickly find information, but there are also significant security risks with sharing information in these public systems. The IT team at Elanco recognized the transformative potential of AI to address employee productivity challenges and saw an opportunity to integrate AI and maintain all data within the Elanco environment.
By creating the first-of-its-kind employee-only generative AI chatbot – ElancoGPT – within Elanco’s network, Elanco IT has complete control over the data shared on ElancoGPT, avoiding data security concerns. ElancoGPT is helping the workforce reduce time spent on routine tasks by an estimated 70%.
“The feedback we’ve had from employees has been fantastic,” said Matt Bull, Chief Technology and Information Security Officer. “Teams can complete tasks more quickly and invest more time to support the animals, pet owners, farmers and veterinarians who rely on our products.”
Since its launch in June 2023, ElancoGPT continues to grow in capabilities to support each Elanco employee’s vital role.

- 5,600 unique users (over 80% of the viable employee population).
- More than 170,000 logins and over 195,000 messages sent.
- An estimated 21,000 work hours saved by completing routine tasks.
